19th Annual TPSA Conference
February 5-7, 2019
Savannah Marriott Riverfront
100 General McIntosh Boulevard
Savannah, GA 31401

WELCOME TO Savannah!

Welcome to Savannah and the 19th Annual Conference for The Pesticide Stewardship Alliance. TPSA
consists of exceptional volunteers who make all this happen year after year and we want to thank everyone who has contributed to putting this program together. In addition, TPSA would not be able to host this
conference without the assistance of all our sponsors. Please take the time to visit with each of them and thank them for helping to make this possible.

We extend a warm welcome to all first time attendees and encourage everyone to meet and get to know the other attendees. We also hope that you enjoy your time in Savannah!

Once again, there are two separate tracks which should allow everyone to find something of interest. Each track has exceptional topics and speakers so you won’t go wrong exploring other opportunities outside your area of expertise. This helps us all better understand the scope of what TPSA covers.

Take time to explore Savannah, a charming Southern escape, where art, period architecture, trendy boutiques and ghost stories are all set under a veil of Spanish moss. Savannah is a place where cuisine comes straight from the coast. Bring your walking shoes and enjoy the many sights.

Thank you for attending!

Five Lessons About Service
Commissioner Gary W. Black
Georgia Department of Agriculture

For over 35 years, Gary W. Black has championed sound state and federal policies impacting food safety, science-based environmental stewardship and agricultural marketing. Now serving his second term, Commissioner Black remains committed to fostering growth in Georgia’s number one industry.

Black’s love of agriculture was first sparked on his family’s farm in Commerce. He became an active member of the Commerce FFA and was elected State President of the Georgia FFA Association in 1975. Black then attended the University of Georgia’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences where he earned a degree in Agricultural Education.

Upon completing his degree at UGA, Black went to work for the Georgia Farm Bureau. After seven years with Farm Bureau, he was named President of the Georgia Agribusiness Council where he served for 21 years as a tireless advocate for farmers and agribusinesses across the state.

Commissioner Black was first elected in November 2010 and immediately set out to retool the Department of Agriculture so that it could continue to serve farmers and producers in a 21st century economy.
