The Pacific Northwest Agricultural Safety and Health (PNASH) Center recently released the guide “Practical Solutions for Pesticide Safety: Protecting Agricultural Pesticide Handlers" which is a collection of solutions and ideas identified on farms and reviewed and developed in a partnership with farmers, educators, and researchers in Washington state. The PNASH Center conducts research and promotes best health and safety practices for Northwest producers and workers in farming, fishing and forestry. Affiliated with the UW School of Public Health, PNASH integrates expertise from multiple disciplines, institutions and community partners.
The document includes options for improving safety in the areas of mixing and
loading pesticides; pesticide application and drifty reduction; decontamination
of personal protective equipment and other equipment; emergency and sanitation
facilities; pesticide storage; and reducing family exposure. The guide is
available in English and Spanish and is posted on the PNASH Center website at: http://depts.washington.edu/pnash/practical_solutions
